- 'At the close of the 20th century, we seem at last to be on the brink of solving the secrets of the universe.' Author of a brief history in time, professor Stephen Hawking is probably the world's most famous living scientist. Through his eyes, we embark
- 1.Seeing is Believing: begins a spectacular journey through cosmology, tracing the history of astronomical theories and technology from the Ancient Greeks through Galileo, Newton, Einstein and Hubble.
- 2. In the beginning: examines conflicting arguments from the Church and the scientists about the origin of the universe and traces Professor Hawking's own role in the Big Bang theory.
- 3. Cosmic Alchemy: follows the rise of modern chemistry. It looks at the discovery of the Periodic Table, the birth of Particle Physics, Marie Curie's pioneering work on radiation and Rutherford's splitting of the atom.
- 4. On the dark side: follows the hunt for invisible dark matter which controls the movement of stars by the gravity it exerts on them. Scientists must discover how much dark matter there is in the universe in order to find out its fate.
- 5. Black holes and beyond: looks at the increasing evidence that such unlikely places such as black holes, must exist. From this discovery Scientists have learned that it is unwise to resist unlikely ideas such as time travel and extra terrestrial alien
- 6. An answer to everything: reveals the scientific search for the ultimate theory of the universe, looking at Einstein's Theory of Relativity and Quantum Mechanics. It also charts the work of today's scientists as they struggle with new theories.
