- Charlie lives on Outhorn, an island with meadows, dunes and sandy beaches. There are few people on the island, and when Charlie rides out alone on Starbright, the Arabian stallion, she has to stay on the main path or the road. When she meets Mona, and Merlin, her stubborn black pony, Charlie finally has a riding companion and can go for more adventurous rides. One summer day Charlie and Mona canter out through the shallow waves to the sandbar offshore. Then the wind drops, the air grows cold, and a bank of fog rolls silently towards them across the sea. Are the girls ridig into trouble?
