  • An acclaimed artist, scientist and enginee, Leonardo da Vinci is one of the most significant geniuses of all time. His inquiring mind led him to constanily observe, examine and experiment. Through dramatic reconstructions and sophisticated computer graphics, this series uncovers Leonardo's story, from his inventions to his legacy - the Mona Lisa.
  • Programme one : The man who wanted to know everything. Following Leonardo from his illegitimate birth to the unveiling of his masterpiece, The last Supper in Milan, we see him learning his craft at the heart of the Renaissance movement in Florence, surviving arrest and possible burning at the stake only to win the patronage of the powerful Duke of Milan. Although much of his work was left unfinished, his notebooks reveal his extraordinary vision as he plans to take man to the bottom of the sea and into the sky, and is the first to dissect and draw the human body, most notably the eype. This programme uses his drawings to build and test, fro the first time, his parachute and his armoured warfare vehicle.
  • Programme two : dangerous liaisons. Leaving Milan, Leonardo wins the patronage of the ruthless warlord Cesare Borgia, for whom he will forsake painting to design war machines and maps. A bitter rivalry emerges, between Leonardo and Michelangelo. This competition leads Leonardo to focus again on his anatomical research, making scientific discoveries hundreds of years ahead of his time. But his paranoia and secrecy ensure that these discoveries remain unseen. With the help of experts, the programme builds and tests all three Leonardo's designs: glider, robot and diving suit.
